An Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) has the expertise, knowledge, and training to teach you properly. They guide you through all 27 skills, correcting mistakes safely and building your confidence step by step.
Once you reach the right level, supplementing your professional lessons with private practice is a great idea. Learners who combine both methods often perform significantly better on their test day.

Legal responsibilities, safety checks, cockpit drill, and vehicle security.
Controls, instruments, moving away, stopping, and safe road position.
Mirrors, signals, anticipation, speed management, and eco-driving.
Handling junctions, roundabouts, and pedestrian crossings safely.
Reversing, bay parking, parallel parking, turning around, emergency stops.
Driving on country roads, dual carriageways, and motorways.
Night driving, adverse weather conditions, and carrying passengers or loads.
Independent driving, sat nav use, and interpreting traffic signs.
Arrive at the test centre 10 minutes early. Have your driving licence and theory test pass certificate ready.
The examiner will introduce themselves, check your eyesight with a number plate reading, and explain the test format.
You will be asked one Tell Me / Show Me safety question before or during the test drive.
For about 20 minutes, you drive independently following sat nav directions or road signs without guidance.
You will be asked to perform one manoeuvre — bay parking, parallel parking, or pulling up on the right.
The examiner gives you your result and explains any faults. If you pass, they will ask if you want a full licence application.
A minor error that does not endanger safety. Up to 15 minor faults allowed — but more of the same fault can become serious.
A dangerous action or potentially dangerous error. Even ONE serious fault means an automatic fail.
An action that puts you, the examiner, or public in actual danger. Automatic fail — test may be stopped early.
